"That might have been true once – it might even be true now".

It's never been true. Men built the world for women and children and probably earn money to provide for their own families. Men are at the bottom here not the top. Unless it's the uber-rich who may have ultimately been the true beneficiaries.

It's good that you're now slowly realising the truth.

“Long is the way and hard, that out of Hell leads up to light.”

I’m a lawyer and a woman; the old fashioned kind in that I was actually born a woman and remained one. Boring, I know. Throughout my career, despite my competence and experience, I always had a male boss. Even when I was a boss, my boss was always a man. I worked with many male lawyers, some who were barely competent but who earned far more than I did and were respected because they had beards and wore braces to keep their trousers up. They often asked for my advice. I was expected to manage a male lawyer and help him understand his own caseload even though he was 4 or 5 pay grades above me. After years of this, I noticed the men were still at the top, but now joining them were those from ethnic minorities. I’m afraid I didn’t stick around after covid to witness the new woke brigade being given jobs and promotions above those who really deserved it.

I’m not saying this because I’m bitter. I’m also not saying that men deserve it after all those years of nicking all the top jobs and promoting their mates. I guess what I’m saying is, I have been working for a very long time and at no time has it ever really been fair. However, workplace is probably less fair now than it’s ever been. I really don’t know why it has to be this way. Life isn’t fair, but that doesn’t make it ok.
