The Conservative Party has lost a titan, while the nation laments the passing of one of the last true characters in politics - a man who could make a socialist blush and a trade unionist quiver with a single arched eyebrow.
What a wonderful bloke. I have asked my two sons, in their 20’s to look him up and do some research. That was a man who is a template for a good life. Hard working, devoted husband, loyal and true. Rest easy Norman.
Some great memories of when politicians were people who had experienced life and had careers behind them. Also some fantastic quotes Frank. I loved this one which is accurate, cutting and a hint of the cruelty he felt towards Major for his part in Maggie’s downfall (and the start of the end for the U.K.)
On John Major and Edwina Currie’s affair: “I just thought it was a wonderful illustration of mutual bad taste.”
Tebbit serves as a reminder that the now-common reference to Jo Cox and David Amess as examples of murderous political terrorism are profoundly short-sighted.

Thanks, yes that’s a gem!
RIP Norm.
When will we ever again see such honesty and integrity in public life?
A true political giant. I remember him campaigning and knocking on doorsin the 1970 election. A real gent. He will be sadly missed.
Did you meet him Rosemary?
Yes, I had that pleasure when he was chatting with my parents. I was just a teenager at the time but he left a lasting impression.
What a lovely memory!
Lovely tribute to a much missed great man.

Excellent article
Thanks John
An extraordinary and an extraordinarily admirable man. I'm sorry to say that I, being a Yank, had never heard of him until now.
One of Britain's greatest, a real inspiration. I loved the 80's with Norman Tebbitt and Maggie at their best.
